Making Music, Reaching ReadersMaking Powerful Connections Possible for Young StudentsMorningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, dagrosa{at}morningside.edu In this article, the author makes a case for the arts enhancing learning. Examples of how music experiences can make valid connections to reading without demeaning music as an art form are presented. These examples include teaching strategies for building vocabulary and increasing comprehension, phonological awareness, and reading fluency through music.
